Doepfer

I only have a small number of a.sol modules...

One of them has its pcb flexed to fit (best way i can describe it).  This is
a desing flaw, rather then a 1 off manufacturing defect.  The bent circuit,
in fairness, dosnt (yet) affect the modules performance, but i dont consider
it good engineering.

(the module is the LFO1 VC-LFO, should anyone like to validate this)

Theres other worrying design comments on the rest of the site, like:

"notes; the snappy pot crackles when turned and there may be a tiny amount
of bleed through between some sounds as it is not practical to use 32
individually screened cables."

(in that case, its just unacceptable, and theres no use in making excuses -
like your milkman saying the milk is rottern because its a hot day, and
expecting that to be ok)

But this is on a sister product, and not the concussor.

I have a large number of doepfer modules.  I havent seen any design failings
like this.  The cliff jacks used on the old modules were bad, but that
afected the other companies too.  The durability of the silk screen is
dissapointing in some instances though, but thats the other fault that comes
to mind?

But on the flip side of that...

I actually only have two a.sol modules now - the vclfo, and the ms20 filter
(i sold some others).
I had the ms20 filter way before doefper bought out his, and ive always
liked it a lot.  I guess the sy02 (the ms20 filter) is one of my most used
filters, so... (but ive never heard the doepfer clone)

The lfo i have is a combination of about 3 doepfer modules (vclfo, noise,
sample&hold).  It has some quirks, but its ok.
A lot more functionality for the money then the doepfer equivalents, but
then there are the afore mentioned negative points too.


Its a bit of a pity.  If a.sol's products were as stable (meening performed
as expected / quality / etc) as doepfer's, then the functionality would be
right up there, but....

If i could choose only one, itlld be dopefer, but, hey, mix and match as you
see fit.
