RE: [Doepfer_a100] VC-panning tech question

2006-01-19 by David Salter

Martin,

This sounds like a job for the morphing controller A-144.

This is actually a X fader with 4 channels. Have a look at http://www.doepfer.de/a144.htm

Used with the A-135 (VC Mixer) and the panner it should do what you want, with a little thought.

Someone will probably have a better solution :)

Subject: [Doepfer_a100] VC-panning tech question

Hello again.
I´m very close to finishing my order to touched-by-sound online-store.
Right now it seems like I will go for 101-2 steinergate and 124 wasp. (no
I´m not buying any lfo:s this time around, hoping for the 143-4 to show up)

I have some troubles understanding the VC-panning module, though. I can´t
figure out if it does what I want it to, which is the following: I want it
to be a channel X-fade- swapper, which is NOT regular panning. I want it to
crossfade/switch 2 audio inputs to proportionally appear at both outputs. So
what I want is in other words a dual-panner with inverted CV-phase
relations, no output ever gets "un-feeded", just the source is "swapped". I
a mid-point the signals are just in a regular mix appearing at both left and
right outputs.
Purpose: Switching between two different pre-filters to be post-processed by
stereo-filtering/processing.

And what I don´t understand is if A-134 can manage this or if, what I just
described is a product idea. I do understand that this swap-effect can
easily be realized with some other modules, like a combination of the dual
voltage inverter and a couple of VC mixers, or with two A-134:s... but isn´t
this purpose very common in A-100 modulation? I suppose I´m not alone
thinking stereo...
And if the swapping module IS a product idea it would very easy to produce.
If so, a manual input gain control of the input levels would also be nice to
adjust the "mix".

/Martin
