To be honest, I could imagine this.

I am planning since a long time a crossfader module, which I need 
urgently for life shows. If you change a patch life, you can not unplug 
filter X and plug in Filter Y. You have to have several crossfaders (and 
multiples) to change the modules life. Though my plans went more to a 
non  voltage controlled crossfader with an inverse stereo potentiometer, 
I could imagine also a CV-sourceswapper as universal approach.

One input, two outs -> Panner
Two inputs, one out -> X-Fader
Two inputs, two outs -> Source swapper

Why not?

Perhaps also existing Panners could be upgraded by addon boards.
