This is the well known "zipper noise". Nearly all MIDI controlled VCAs 
do present this behaviour. The only one I know, which does not show it, 
is the Hoef "HF-16 Automix" (this is becaus Hoef does work with a lot 
higher internal resolution of the control signal and translates the 7Bit 
MIDI info to either smooth fading or to imidiate jumps depending on the 
changes of the input signal.

the item back for a certain time, and get your money back without any
