Sorry, this is nonsense. So called "Exponential" and "Logarithmic" VCAs 
are the same (at least in the analog modular synths, we all know). Its 
simply a point of view, either from amplification side or from control 
voltage side.
I would prefer the description are linear and non-linear VCA.

Non-Linear VCAs are those, which have an expo converter in the control 
current circuit.

It depends, what you call "punch". Most non technical orientated people 
call a highly compressed playback with not a lot dynamics "punchy". 
Bassdrums will sound like boxing in your stomache.

More technical thinking people, call a fast changing leveldifference 
within different timediffences  more punchy (mathematically spoken: 
Delta-Level(Delta-T1) > Delta-Level(Delta-T2)). Snaredrums will sound 
like famous "ice pick in the forehead" [(c) by Frank Zappa].

So the first half will call linear VCA more punchy and the second half 
will call the log/exp-VCA more punchy.

I tend to the non technical point of view and prefere linear VCAs for 
envelope modulation.
