Very true Ingo.
 
There are some fine sequencers on the market, although some are midi drivers only.
 
Worth checking out are Plan B Milton (Peter has a new version in prototype with some very nice features) and also worth looking at is the Schrittmacher.
 
There are others. No sequencer will ever do everything you want, especially in live situation. The other alternative of course is software.

i'm pretty sure if someone makes such a sequencer there will
be other guys complaining that one row is not enough.
or 16 steps are to much. or guess what else will come into
their minds. you just can't get it all right, unless you
do it just for yourself.
