hello altogether,

here are some more a188/1 bbd module sound examples,
this time with mn3209 (256 stages) and mn3204 (512 stages).


part 1:

the simplified audio path is:   vco -> vca -> bbd -> out

the vco is an a110, playing a 16 note sequence.
the vca is an a131, controlled by an a143/2 adsr envelope.
first you hear the dry bbd input signal, then the bbd output.

1.
another 16 step sequence modulates the delay time.
a110 waveform is triangle. the feedback on the
512 stages example is inverted.

2.
same as above, but with a different sequence for the delay time.
feedback is inverted.

delay time is controlled by an a149/1.
feedback is inverted.

a slow triangle wave from an a147 lfo modulates the delay time.
a110 waveform is sawtooth.

in this example the delay time is set to maximum, no
delay time modulation takes place. the bbd output
is filtered with an 48db lowpass filter (a108).
the a108 cutoff is modulated by the same pitch cv as the a110
(in other words: keytracking). a110 waveform is triangle.
you hear the 48db output of the a108.

part 2:

now a basic karplus-strong-patch.
the simplified audio path is:   noise -> vca -> bbd -> out

the noise is coming from an a117.
the vca is an a131, controlled by an a143/2 adsr envelope.
the pitch cv from the above examples now modulates the delay time.

6.
the a143/2 is set to the shortest envelope possible.
during recording the attack time is set from zero to 5,
then the decay time is also set from zero to 5.
after that the attack time is set back from 5 to zero,
and finally also the decay time is set back from 5 to zero.

Are we any closer to an official release date for these modules? They
are very exciting!

A-188-1 news

Dear members,

these is the latest news concerning the A-188-1:

We receive the first batch of A-188-1 in the week after Easter (i.e. about
April 20, 2006). But all modules of the first batch are already ordered. If
you have already ordered you will probably receive your A-188-1 about end of
April. Otherwise you will have to wait for the next batch (about middle/end
of May). If you live in a country with a Doepfer representative please ask
them if they have A-188-1 left (we do not know if the modules ordered by a
representative are already ordered by their customers).

The module can be ordered with 6 different types of BBD's: 128, 256, 512,
1024, 2048 and 4096 stages (unfortunately the front panels are already made
and there are only marks for 512/1024/2048/4096 on the panels, so we will
probably use stickers for the versions with 128 or 256 stages). But only the
versions with 1024 and 2048 stages (MN3207/BL3207, MN3208/BL3208) are the
standard versions, i.e. we guarantee the availability of these two types for
the future. The four other types use obsolete BBD circuits (MN3005, MN3006,
MN3204, MN3209) and we have only a limited quantity of these circuits
available. Therefore these four versions of the A-188-1 are sold while
stocks last. At the moment there is no need to hurry. I expect that these
circuits will last at least until the end of this year or even longer (and
we will try to find new sources for these circuits). But I have to point out
that I cannot promise anything.

Last week we received the 4096 stages BBD circuits (MN3005) and found that
they are not fully compatible with the other BBDs.   Unfortunately it is not
possible simply to replace an existing MN3207/3208 by the MN3005. Some
additional modifications have to be made (exchanging two pins of the BBD
circuits by manual wiring, replacing two resistors on the board by other
ones, connecting two additional resistors to +12V). Consequently an A-188-1
with 4096 stages/MN3005 would look very "DIYish". This is why we will
redesign the A-188-1 board so that for the third series of the module (about
June 2006) it will be possible to use even the MN3005 without manual wiring.
For this we will add some jumpers to the pc board that have to be set in the
suitable positions for different BBD circuits. If it isn't too urgent I'd
recommend to wait for the third series if you want to have the module with
4096 stages/MN3005.

hello all,

i totally agree with dieter regarding the 4096 stages version.
if you want this version, you should better wait until the
third series of modules is ready. looking at the 4096 stages
prototype, there are really a lot of modifications on the pcb.

during the easter weekend i'll record some examples
with the 4096 stages prototype. stay tuned...
