A-143-1 Timebase modification: Fast, easy.

A-143-1 Timebase modification: Fast, easy.

2006-06-27 by (i think you can figure that out)

Yo.

Bringing my head above ground here for a second to give you the
scoop on a very easy, yet effective modification to the Quad A/R
Gen, the A-143-1.

As you know, I like long envelopes. Adding a ON-OFF-ON switch
which will short in two additional caps across the 143-1's
'money' (timing) cap will get you there if you want by adding the
very same range switch function inherent on the Doepfer ADSR.

I've uploaded a diagram into the photos section of this
yahoogroup (pardon the snap - it was done on my cell phone).
It's entotled A143-1mod.jpg. It shows the mod itself (easy) and
where I opted to locate the switches, which nestled in neatly in
the blank area above the Voltage Output jacks of EG's 2, 3 and 4.
In that there wasn't an easy way to integrate the switch into the
first EG, I left that one alone.

Using an ON-OFF-On switch allows you to to take the additional
caps out of the circuit altogether if you care to (switch resting in
the center position).

BTW - this mod can be added to any EG. All you have to do is
find the timing cap and short additional caps over it. In this
specific mod, I used a 47uf on one side of the switch and a
150uf on the other. So, long and loooooong.

enjoy (or not!)

- P

Peter,

thank's for this idea. We could add the capacitor positions of all
corresponding modules (envelope generators, LFOs ...) to our DIY page if
there are sufficient inquiries.

Best wishes

This looks like a fantastic mod.
Forgive my n00b questions here:

1. Is the switch a DPDT ON - OFF - ON? (I assume it doesnt matter if
its a make-before-break or not)
2. When you say "short across the caps", are you referring to adding
capacitors in parallel to the existing timing cap?
3. Is the electrolytic the timing cap?

I checked the DIY page but did not find this mod there.

Thanks!

Perfect, thanks to you (and to Peter).

I revisited the jpg Peter posted and found my answers to #1 and #2
there as well. Funny how it takes a few times before I can see the
fine details.

Frequency Shifter A-126 is running out

2008-04-03 by hardware@doepfer.de

Dear members,

I wanted to inform you that the A-126 frequency shifter module is running
out. There is no chance to get the CEM3382 elsewhere which was used in the
module. There is a corresponding note since several weeks on our website but
now the stock is running out (we have only about 25 modules left). We will
design a new frequency shifter module without quadrature oscillator (the
CEM3382 was used for the VC quadrature oscillator) as now there's a
quadrature oscillator module separately available (A-143-9). But I assume
that there will be a delivery gap as the new frequency shifter module will
be available not before end of this year. It will probably include a squelch
circuit (a VCA at the output which is controlled by an envelope follower to
avoid VCO feedthrough with no or low level input signal).

Best wishes
Dieter Doepfer

asking. You are the first one.

For the A-143-1 the corresponding capacitor is "C1" (standard value 2.2uF)
and is located behind the LED that displays the envelope.

47uF and 150uF seem like large values compared to the existing 2.2uF.
 Do those values seem correct?

Also, is the cap's positive axis located close to the LED, or close to
the edge of the pcb?

Thanks!

I have started a second DIY page with the timing capacitor positions and
values for modules. So far only the A-143-1/2/3 are available. Other modules
will be added in the future. Tell me if you need the spec for another
module. It can be added shortly. A link to the new capacitors page is
available on top of the A-100 DIY page.

Excellent, thank you Dieter. I've just finished the mod using 47uF
and 150uF values as Peter recommended, on three of the four
generators. Now I get cycles that last as long as 5:20 (47uF) and
over 16:00 (150uF). I'll take pictures when my batteries are recharged.

assemble all three caps (per generator) next to each other on
protoboard, since space is limited on/around the original boards.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
