Cliff S6 jacks [slightly OT]

Cliff S6 jacks [slightly OT]

2006-11-16 by longforparade

Hello everyone!,

I am planning to mod my Oberheim TVS1 somewhat by putting out many of the SEMs'
internal patchpoints on 3.5mm jacks along the upper edge of the instrument. For this I
was just about to order a bunch of Cliff S6 jacks, but as I understand from browsing this
forum those jacks were the cause of some problems in earlier A100 modules. So my
question is: Have the Cliff S6 jacks become better since, or did Doepfer just change to
another model? Am I safe to use them on my project or should I look for another maker of
jacks?

Thank you for your time [and sorry for being slightly offtopic],
Henrik Medquist

Cliff changed their design years ago now. Only old doepfer modules, with
the old cliff design are affected.

I use cliff jacks for all my stuff, and am happy with them.

http://port23.co.uk/tb303/3.jpg is a 303 thats just been completed with
them. i think they look a lot nicer than the standard 3.5mm sockets.

(ps. the 303s going on sale this afternoon, if anyones interested ; )

We - and as far as I know all other manufacturers that were using the 3.5 mm
Cliff sockets S6PC - have changed to a revised version of the Cliff sockets
many years ago (I think it was in 2001). Especially Bob Williams of Analogue
Systems/UK and I intervened at Cliff to obtain sockets with better contacts
(stronger spring). As far as I know the contact problems have been solved
since the revised Cliff sockets are in use - at least we had no more
complaints since that time.

Best wishes

i've got an early A100 Basic 1 with the bad jacks, i just wiggle them a bit when they flake out...is there any type of simple fix, short of replacing every jack?

Normally the procedure described on our website will solve the problem:
