Doepfer

i was listening to this song by Brian Eno and i was practicing my patching skills but trying 
to get a similar sound but i'm having trouble making the "bleeps and bloops" behave in a 
pseudo-rhythmic manner as they do in the song.  Any suggestions?

anthony, you have fine taste, as that has long been one of my personal
favorite instrumental breaks in rock music.

i can't suggest any patch possibilites there, but i think the best
thing is to set up a patch that has no control factor that is outside
of your own control...meaning use as many user
controlled/non-mechanical modifiers and triggers as possible such as
ribbon, joystick, expresion pedal, or theremin controller.  i think
the human nervous system's version of random is more interesting than
mechanically generated random.  coming from someone who has a really
whacked sense of rhythm i've learned to appreciate that while not
exactly "tight", i at least have MY version of rhythm.

i think eno was probably just jamming live and all the interesting
tweaks and timbre changes were done live with fingers or feet.  his
solo on roxy music's "editions of you" is another awesome synth freakout.

SO COOL! One of my favorite songs and I was just thinking the exact same
thing the other day. Obviously there¹s portamento involved. Maybe the rest
is due to the bizarre nature of the EMS? Wasn¹t that what he was using?
