What a wonderful addiction

What a wonderful addiction

2007-08-26 by vav

So, er, hi, i'm Vav. Used to work for Waldorf, smokes a lot of
cigarettes, blah blah. Finally decided to go modular, chose Doepfer as
my main staple and other stuff to supplement.

Set up so far:

A124 wasp filter, A198 ribbon, Bananalogue Serge VCS, Asys RS500E EMS
filter, Asys RS180 VCA.

Thoughts on where to go next? Suggestions? Digressions? Indigestion?

Hey Vav, seems to me that you need some utility modules... a mixer and a
mult. Also might be nice to have a VCO, The A-110 is a good inexpensive
one... I have been eying the Plan B Model 15 VCO. Also, if you like to do
ext. processing, you will find the Doepfer A-119 to be very useful. There
always the Doepfer BBD modules...

Hey TR,

Thanks for the words. I'm thinking Plan B Model 15's as well...but
will probably wait until the rest of the system is up to snuff before
i bring in the big boys. Think i'll do a Doepfer Log mixer, the
Banalogue 3P, and that keen Elby/CGS dual LFO as my next priorities.
Struggling with which Envelopes to choose though...I want something
invertable, something cycleable, maybe manual gate and/or re-trig.
Looking at the Doepfer Quad, or maybe the Doepfer VCADSR coupled with
a Plan B Polyphonic Env.

Yeah, the Doepfer Quad Env and the Quad LFO are both nice looking.

Perhaps even more useful to you would be the A-143-2 Quad AD-Generator.
These AD env. are loopable and make great LFOs.

Don't for about the Bananalogue Serge VCS... read about it, a very useful
module. Does env. lfo, lo pass gate-esque, follower, slew too much to
mention; next on my list!

I looked at the Quad AD, but i'm thinking ADSR's will be more useful to me
if i use them on their own, ya know? And i've already got a VCS, and i'll
probably get a second one :)

Ah, I fogot that you had already the VCS... is it worth the price of
admission? From what I have read, it seems to be a very useful module, do
you find yourself using it alot?

Well, I picked one up back when they were first released, and absolutely
feel it's worth it. I wish I had another one or two of them.

Depending on how you use it, it can be a slew generator, a curve-shaper,
an EG, an envelope follower, or an LFO. Due to this kind of
multifunctionality, I find it gets pulled into every patch I make.

no. i prefer the Plan B Model 10-- it covers a lot of the same ground but is
one of the great envelopes out there. Thes VCS is cool as it's a cheap
solution for many things, and it's pretty cool as a filter even....
I think both are great, but the m10 is the one I always got to.... the VCS
is kinda a budget do it all module-- and it's worth having certainly, or
especially if you have only a few modules.

I second the Model 10 -- very useful/versatile EG/LFO with plenty of
outs and control options.
