Yahoo! Spam alert...

Yahoo! Spam alert...

2002-04-12 by Florian Anwander

Hi,

this mail came over in the nord_modular group on Yahoo.

I think for this we should leave yahoo and try to find another place to do
this maillist from. The best thing would be an own server.

What about the others?

Florian

Hi Group,

Apparently, starting in June, Yahoo is launching an all out spam
campaign on its users.

They added a bunch of new advertising related fields to everyone's
Account Information and opted everyone in. To get to these, you need
to go into your Account Information and in the email address section
there's a button to click that says "Edit your marketing preferences."

All the new fields are set to "Yes" by default. Also, there are two
check boxes at the bottom of the page that you must check unless you
want Yahoo to provide you with phone solicitation and junk snail mail.

Someone on another Yahoo Group pointed this out to me. Yahoo sent out
email about this with the subject "Message from Yahoo! about changes
to our Privacy Policy and your Marketing Preferences". But most users
don't read Yahoo system messages.

Try to spread this information around to the other groups you belong
to - unless it's a group whose members you don't particularly like :)
