the pitch to cv/gate/midi converter...

2002-04-25 by bakis Sirros

hi list,
i just received the following info from dieter
doepfer:
"We started the development of the Pitch-to-CV/MIDI
converter about 1 1/2 years ago. But we stopped the
development as the inquiries for the converter seem to
be very poor. The time required to finish the
development of the converter is very high and so we
are not sure if we should continue due to the high
development costs. It would not make sense for us if
we e.g. only sell only 50 of the converters as this
would not even cover our own expenses."
so,if anyone is interested for this module(i
am!!!)please vote to the poll in the group polls
page.i think, this would be a really interesting
module with great creative potential...
thank you.
bakis.

Sorry, but I will vote against since I find other upgrades more important.

I would quite like to get hold of pitch-to-CV module of some
description, but I wouldn't want the MIDI interface with it. Why put
the two together, which presumably increases the price, when the A-192
already exists (or is there a proposed difference in functionality)?

hi tim,
i am not sure,but i think that the pitch-cv/gate/midi
converter sends also a midi note info on the midi
output.instead ,the a192 only converts vc's to
continious controllers but not gates to midi
notes...if i'm right,of course...i don't have the a192
module.
by the way,it would be really useful to have an a100
cv/gate to midi interface...by using this you could
use the a155 sequencer to send midi notes to midi
synths.i would tottaly be interested in something like
this!

I'd be interested in a module like that too...
After reading your reply, bakis, I ask myself if you could tra a
workaround via MIDI program like MAX(the 'quasi' MIDI 'VERSION' of
MSP...
The question is what the module should do, if it
A) just has to transfom a MIDI note's pitch into CV I think that
should be possible with MAX - unfortunately I had to give away my
powerbook for repair (2nd time within 4 months !!) , but maybe on
this group has experience in programming max...

or,

B) one understands it more as being a pitch detector that detects
pitch and outputs it as CV, again this could be made possible , if
you are able to get a box that detects pitch and outputs it a MIDI,
via a data table ( all the eventide machines can be programmed to do
it)and then again it might be just some MIDI programming to transform
it into a controller value that every MIDI to cv interface can read...

... just some 'cross-plaform' thoughts ;)

klaus,
yes, this is possible w max and there are many shareware apps
that do pitch-to-midi also. good to know.. and can be interesting
for experimenting w unlikely mod sources (like your voice). i
hope doepfer eventually makes one (ASys makes one, gave it
some thought but held off). i'd prefer a doepfer module for
pitch-to-cv, and perhaps one w the 'whole 9 yards' that supports
gate and midi too. my main reason for wanting one in hardware
form is the same reason i use a modular synth at all, fun and
immediate!
