Doepfer

Is it possible to put Doepfer modules in one of these?

Will they fit, and does anybody know what I would need to get
Euro-rails that can fit into the standard rack rails that this uses? 
So far everything I've seen like that has been way too deep, really
only the front rails would be needed.  I have yet to see a doepfer
module in person, so I have no idea how deep they are.  (I have some
modules on order, and have already received my DIY kit #1)  I'm
thinking it would be WAY more elegant if I could somehow adapt this
kit to a pop-up mixer rack, but can it be done?  Also, if Doepfer
modules will fit, what about 3rd party modules, like AS, Harvestman,
and MFB?

Also, on a side note, and in case the above idea isn't feasible, where
in the US can I buy the stuff to make professional rack cabinets? 
Like corners and the handles like you see on guitar amps...

I was referring to the depth.  Obviously it fits width-wise.  And, if
SKB is bad, then what would you suggest?

the SKB stuff is crap. it's std rack 19" so yes it fits.. again, the SKB
shit is shit!   may last for a gig or two.

The depth of each module is specified on the corresponding info page of the
module. They do not have a uniform depth.

He's built or modified a eurorack.  A stock G6 Doepfer rack is about twice as deep as will 
fit in one of them. I'm sorry I don't have time to measure. I'm near certain it will not fit 
stock Analogue Solutions cases either .

Yes, I have one of them for my Fenix, but it's a fairly shallow synth (5", 120mm). I agree 
those cases have some very annoying build details but there are few alternatives for a 
Fenix (the chassis width requires narrower rack rails than standard rack specs specify).
I've heard lots of complaints about transport issues with the latches and lowering the 
angled rack back in can be a headache due to the mechanism.  Anyway those SKB cases 
will fit things like Serge Modules, nearly all Buchla and might be fine with the Cwejman 
case (every module I've seen is like an inch deep because of the boards being parallel to 
the panels.  I know Frac Racks are too deep because I wanted to fill some space in my

From my memory the original Plan B Model 15 VCO sticks in my mind as the deepest 
module for a Eurorack I've seen


I don't think there are too many modules that are over deep from Doepfer, but it depends 
what your clearance is when the chassis/rack holding them is done. Remember the power 
bus needs room too. Unless you put your power outside the case that would be a factor.

Yeah, the case is mine... im not sure as my server is on at the
moment, but i certainly had some notes on how to build the case
somewhere there.

In short -

the case is custom.  you can buy eurorack parts about the place, but
then youll also have to modify them too (ie i got a metal working
place to cut down the side pannels, and make up some brackets for the
back)

in the photos in the files section its not even running off mains
electricity, but a couple of sealed lead acid batteries, which was
good for street use, but i built an external linear power supply also
(i used 4pin xlr connectors to connect in either the batteries, or the
lead from the mains psu)

incidently, using an external power source was also as there is not
enough depth behind the modules to mount a power supply, so, rather
than loose module space, i preferred to have an external supply.

IIRC i actually bought / modified enough subrack parts for 6-off 6u
enclosures, but i think i only built 3 or 4-off.  The others, and i
think matching SKB cases, are still lurking in my shed?

I think the depth problem will be a challenge with most cases made  
for mixers. The best working solution will probably be a Portable  
case and a stand to make it lean back at the angle you want. There  
are some good acoustic guitar stands that work well for the portable  
cases. Ones with this type of design:

after i saw julian's system i also placed some doepfer modules in a 
skb case. i had to cut the original doepfer case to the right depth. 
the power supply is on the bottom of the case in a little housing. i 
think there are some modules that won't fit in the sbk case because 
they are to deep. but for me this works perfect and i did a lot of 
gigs with it.

The deepest module i personally found was the a112 sampler, and that fit in fine for me.

I dont know if there are deeper modules now.

i wasted some room with the plate on the back and the bus boards. 
allthough i never tried i think the a112 doesn't fit in my sbk case.
