At least now I feel slightly better about my own messy studio. Mine
is a tiny 10'x10' room, and I'm constantly struggling to find room for
more gear, while fighting my natural tendency to accumulate clutter.
As long as you can still use the gear, I wouldn't worry too much about
the aesthetics.

Messy Studios...

2008-07-22 by James Husted

I have recently been trolling the photo section of the list and
noticed how much more tidy everyone's studios seem. Mine is not at
all! It doesn't usually get in the way but I must admit it makes it
hard to have someone over to jam with. I decided to use public shame
as a means to stir me to do some cleaning. So here are my "before"
pictures:

Hopefully soon I can post a set of "after" pictures. I'm hoping some
others on this list have some clutter to share so I don't feel too
bad...

-James, in the basement, hopefully tidying up a bit.

My studio room is completely useless at the moment, it's so messy.
Some of us aren't actually cleaner than you, we just choose to only
take pictures on the occasions when we're clean!

Thanks you really made my day. I thought I had a messy studio ;-)Cool gear
though. Amazing that you have those Mirage samplers!
They sound soooo gritty.

They are so dirt cheap in used shops when you find them. I think I got
the rack ones for $75 each at the time. The keyboard Mirage was the
ONLY keyboard/rack unit/synth I have ever bought new. I've had it for
decades. Lucky for me I never learned to play on a regular keyboard
and the horrible action never bothers me at all. I have around a
hundred disc for the things but really use only 3-6 sounds on them. I
have a Piano disc I got somewhere that I always use - a beautiful
dirty gritty real sounding piano. The added benefit is that the CEM
chips in them are worth MUCH more than what I paid for them!
