Why should some chip manufacture make SIDs in lots of 1k or 10k when they can make ASICs for Routers, NICs, Hubs, Switches, Telco gear etc. in lots of 100k and higher? I could be wrong. Ethan

No, I don't think so, but couldn't they be made again. I wonder why no company hasn't specialised in making clones of old out of production chips, can anybody explain? ----- Original Message ----- From: "component" <component@mindstorm.com> To: <Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 3:27 AM Subject: Re: [Doepfer_a100] Poll results for Doepfer_a100 > Are the sid chips even still available in mass numbers ? > > >From what I rember, they were becoming harder and harder to come by > > Rob! > ::::::Component Records::::::: > Box 783, Somers, Ct 06071 > www.componentrecords.com > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com> > To: <Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Sunday, June 09, 2002 9:30 PM > Subject: [Doepfer_a100] Poll results for Doepfer_a100 > > > > > > The following Doepfer_a100 poll is now closed. I think you could be wrong simply cause there is demand for spare parts etc and cause it is a know and simple technology to manufacture old parts. It requires no research, no nothing and rather than throwing a nice vintage like an SH101, Jupiter 8, Matrix and so on people is likely to pay rather high prices. I myself could consider paying 50 or so bucks for a spare cpu for my sh101... The demand is there, the supply should follow, right? So I think you are wrong on the 1k - 10k part. It is like spares for vintage cars, expensiver than for new ones. Wonder when some small specialist will pick up... ----- Original Message -----
