Stereo effects?

Stereo effects?

2008-11-18 by techmaster242

I've been talking with an established (signed) musician who uses a
modular, and he suggested getting an A-132 so I can make stereo sounds
with my modular. I've been giving some thought to his suggestion, and
I don't really see how that would work, seeing as it's two seperate
VCA's basically. I do see there is an A-134 VC Panning module, it
seems to make more sense to me, because you put a signal into it, then
you could modulate it with like an LFO, and have the sound going left
and right at an adjustable speed...or use ADSR to have it move around
in the stereo field as you play out notes...that would be especially
cool for pad type sounds. If you can do this with the A-132, how? Or
is the A-132 good for a different type of stereo effect?

I guess if you connect the same audio signal to both audio inputs, you
would then have it coming out of the two outputs. Now vary the CV
amount on each VCA and the audio could be made to increase on the left
and diminish on the right, or vice versa. You need two LFO signals 180
degrees out of phase (in other words, one inverted).

More fun - Two A-132 and a A-143-9 - now you have a Quadraphonic auto
panner. Also nice if 4 different sources are used and then mixed back
together and you can have a wavestation like effect. Exchange the
A-143-9 for a A-144 and then things get really fun. Then you can feed
the A-144 with a envelope generator and whip the sound around in a
pattern. Double the whole setup and use a joystick and then you have
two sounds that you can fly around in the quadraphonic space my manual
control!

I use the A143-9 to do panning stuff. It works really well for that. (of
course in combi with VCAs).Besides that the A143-9 is a nice sine
oscillator, which is a great bonus.
I've been using it as an extra audio source in several patches already.

Hi,

When I use the A-132-1 for panning effects like this I also need to add an
offset CV to both VCAs, to set the center volume level (when both the normal
and inverted LFO=0V). Otherwise, when panning should be centered, you will
have both VCAs completely muted instead.
...or you can use two VCAs that have an initial gain setting.

Hope this helps,
Jordi

You are right! That's why I use two A131s for this.. (for stereo)
