Frequency Shifter

Frequency Shifter

2002-06-26 by jmaddocks1975

I've always been interested in doepfers Frequency Shifter module but
after been dissapointed with the A-119 module wasn't sure about
getting one without hearing it first.
All this recent talk about the module has made me want one again.

Does anyone know any websites where I can hear DOEPFERS frequency
shifter in action?
Or if someone could upload an mp3 to this site would be cool.

Thanks

Id be happy to do that...and you'll be blown away. I have a patch
up now which gives a dramatric effect of what the freq shifter will
do to a normal sound, minding it's own business.

I just have to figure out how to make an MP3! I use Digital
Performer on a Mac. If anyone knows of software required to do
that, please get in touch at petergrenader@mksound.com.

I also have Liquid audio - i think (ithink) that will do the
conversion of AIFF. yes?

I threw one in the files section (on the left) called
CD_feedback.mp3. Basically, it's a A121 filter breaking into
oscillation. The A121 is then run through the A126, which is being
modulated by a low frequency square wave. The Up and Down outputs of
the A126 were sent left and right, which the output of the A121 was
mixed in for good measure.

Basically, it's a nasty sounding patch, but I needed a feedback loop,
and really didn't want everything that goes along with hiring a
guitar player... at least not for a few seconds of pseudo feedback.

Regards,
Kevin

Re: [Doepfer_a100] Frequency Shifter/ A-119

John, what do you say? You were disappointed with the A-119?
To be honest that´s my favorite module; it´s so versatile. You can use it as a simple distortion, as a buffered mini-multiple, as a pre-amp and not to forget the envelope follower.
Plug in a microphone and be prepared for weird modulations by your voice when using the envelope out.
the module is great for gating and you even can build a simple compressor/ limiter! Check: http://www.analogue.org/network/dynamics.htm

Just a little useful device in my eyes.

Paul

Err... I checked my notes, and discovered that I actually used an
A110 into the A124 Wasp filter, which was modulated by predominently
red noise. The output of the A124 was then sent to the A126, which
was modulated by the square wave LFO of the A191.

So much for my memory, eh?

Re: Frequency Shifter/ A-119

oops!
I meant the A-116 (Waveform processor) not the A-119 :-D
Yes A-119 is a good module, as you say a very good distortion box, I
use it to distort beats a lot and to overdrive waveforms,

My dissapointment was at the A-116, to subtle for me, BUT its still
a good module. Kinda of like PWM for any waveform.
