A-119 ext. input and computer headset

A-119 ext. input and computer headset

2009-02-26 by Silas Johansen

I'd like to use the microphone in my cheapo computer headset to
process talk through the A-100. When I plug it into my A-119 input I
don't get anything - I assume this is because it's a condenser mic and
that it therefore needs a few volts of potential between ground and
hot.

Does anybody have an idea of how many volts a standard computer
headset microphone needs? Would a 9V battery be enough, and would the
A-119 survive 9V on the input? I imagine I could solder up two mini
jacks and a 9V battery, + to signal, - to ground, and put it all in a
nice little box - would this be sufficient? And harmless to my A-119?

Thank you for the bandwidth,
Silas

The A-119 cannot be damaged by connecting a 9V battery to the input. The
(asymm) input is AC coupled with capacitors that withstand up to 16V. But I
have no experience with a condenser mic connected to the A-119.

typically need 3 or 5 volt .
