a171: another slew problem

a171: another slew problem

2009-05-17 by Stu Grimshaw

hi group,

i get a drop in pitch when i reduce the slew rate from maximum on an a171 slew limiter connected dirctly to a single vco.

is there a simple fix as there is with the a170?

i'd appreciate any help.

cheers,

stu

Hi Stu,

Yeah, sounds like it could be the same problem as before - the output protection resistor, though in the A-171's case it is already lower (at 220ohm) than the 1k in the A-170. So, you could try shorting it, or putting a 100ohm across it to reduce the value, and see if that helps (but heeding Dieter's warning in message #15764!).

Assuming your module is the same as mine (it uses a CA3080, so presumably will need a re-design to use an LM13700 at some point...), it is the red-red-brown resistor on the left of the three between the two chips (i.e. nearest the bigger chip - I can't make out its actual 'R' number).

Tim

If I remember right, there is an offset trimpot
on the A171, but it should also be OK to do the
same mod as on the A170. I used a 60‡ resistor on
the A170 and it tracks pitch fine now.
