new module proposal

hi everyone, when i was answering joe's posts about the modular vocoder, i spoke of one of the missing functions from all the combined Doepfer LFO's. the variable waveform shape of the A146 LFO does not have voltage control of the waveform. it's sad that the LFO doesn't have that function among other things. i think a combination of all the functions from the 3 LFO's a, plus VC of the Variable Waveform Shape and a Quadrature Sync Input with a pot to control the sync of another LFO. i whipped up a mock up of what i call the A149 Voltage Control Variable Waveform LFO. please don't laugh my Photoshop skills, they are non-existant. i am posting the draft in the files section. remember this a first draft and i am sure with suggestions, the function layout could improve. since i am not an engineer and can't design the circuit myself, i don't know if the theoretical functions of the LFO are possible. but from all the time that i have experimented and played with different modulars, as well as reading block diagrams for different modules, i am led to believe that this LFO could be produced. at what price? i would not know. to get a crazy quadrature relationship from whatever amount of lfo's you wish to sync. you line up two or more lfo's together. you mult the Positive Pulse Out of the first LFO to the Reset Inputs of the following lfo's for clocking the other LFO's in the tempo. you could also use Clock Dividers for divide down relationships between several LFO's. then you take a mult of the regular Pulse Output and patch it to the Sync Inputs of the other LFO's you wish to have a quadrature relationship with( for a parallel relationship) or you could daisy chain them one after the other ( for a serial relationship). now here is the kicker, since there is a pot associated with each sync input, the pot becomes a variable modifier for the incoming sync signal. since its variable, you can really get wild sycopated outputs to drive multiple Sequencers, Envelop generators etc. you could also the take the last LFO's Positive Output and patch it back to the first LFO create some serious choatic quadrature outputs. now imagine having a few of these Lfo's to control a fully loaded Doepfer Modular Vocodoer, i am jonesing to have such functions with my modular. i located the sync input above the Sine Output, so when you put another LFO next to it, it sits right next to the Positive Pulse Output. you could use really short cables to avoid patch cord clutter. you could also hard wire the LFO's together. these ideas came to me after i drafted the mock up. it might be a good idea to have buffered double outputs for both of the Pulse Outputs to avoid the issue and head ache of multing. maybe a Voltage Control input for the Sync Input to have modulatable Sync for each LFO. phew that was a lot for one sitting, i hope i didn't bore you with these ideas. these are the ideas and patterns i like to experiment with when it comes to modulars. that's i why i am always sad when i see functions that could have had voltage control attached to the module in the first place, but are not included. if there is enough interest, i will make a poll and see what happens. maybe Doepfer could take the lead and run with it, i sure hope this happens. thanks for your time and enjoy. cheers, RM
