Kenton just released a USB to MIDI converter. Who will be the first to make a Euro Rack version? Doepfer? http://www.kentonuk.com/digital_interfaces_converters/midi_cv_converters_extras/usbsolo.html -James

Wow... what will they think of next, A/D and D/A converters?

Ok - it was a typo - jeeze The link goes to a USB>CV converter and nobody else seems to thought about it enough to be making them. -J On Jun 26, 2009, at 7:01 PM, Michael wrote: > > > Wow... what will they think of next, A/D and D/A converters? > > On Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 7:04 PM, <james.husted@mac.com> wrote: > > > > > > Kenton just released a USB to MIDI converter. yeah, interesting, i guess they realize so many people have usb keyboards/controllers lying around that it makes more sense to skip the midi. .. and i was just about to buy a MCV.. by the way - this is my first post - thanks for letting me join yer group. -brendan --- In Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com, Michael <michael@...> wrote:

I only looked quickly at that link. It would be awesome if they took advantage of USB and made it higher resolution... otherwise it seems kind of pointless.

I just see it as good in the convenience factor and performance factor. The bandwidth of USB is quite a bit higher than MIDI. That means when you have a few of them running off a hub you won't get nearly the delay that you would by chaining a few MIDI>CV converters off a MIDI stream. You may match the same results with multiple USB>MIDI>CV chains but this way one hub that can run 4 of these and your set. There should be much less choking the stream at the 480MB bandwidth of USB2 vs the 32K bandwidth of MIDI so there will be an advantage over a plain MIDI>CV converter when multiple units are used. There is just only the convenience factor of no MIDI converter when only one is used. It will shine when you have more than one of them. -James On Jun 27, 2009, at 1:19 PM, Michael wrote: > > > I only looked quickly at that link. And even the internal interface of the Dark Energy (which is equipped with USB) will be available individually in the course of this year. Probably both a version in a separate box (UCV4 ?) and a modular version (A-190-4 ?). Best regards Dieter Doepfer

Hi Dieter, Hopefully, we would to see the polyphonic MIDI interface as an external interface as well, incase I want to save up the precious rack space :-)
