The 149 SoU is my main module (often with the 156 Quantizer) and
alternatives such as the Wogglebug and Cyclotron also need investigation.

nick.
f.w.i.w., i like the a-149-1/2 s.o.u. also - i have 3 of them plus a 300
wogglebug, a makenoise wogglebug, 2 different d.i.y. wogglebugs and 2 other
peculiar d.i.y. random c.v./gate generators. yes, i love random stuff !
:^)
oddly enough, i like the density of the quad modules for my system. vc lfo
seems a necessity tho, too.
doepfer lopass/gate is very nice too.
myself, i`d consider an a-106-6 vcf before the a-106 xtreme but again,
thats just me.
vco`s all have their own qualities but i find the a-110 perfectly adequate
for most of what i do but thats not pitch/note oriented either. i sometimes
think that a simpler vco is better with complexities added by wave
multiplier-type modules.
just some scattered thoughts -
best,
dave

Thanks for the advice, Dave, it will be followed. I found your music on MySpace - that's the sort of noise I aspire to.

One of the earliest pieces I made with the SoU is still the best:

Hi Stu

I've been trying to recreate the patch ever since but without success. So it goes, let it go, at least I had the sense to record 5 minutes. It started as a straight copy of the Doepfer manual 149 patch

http://www.doepfer.de/a100_man/A1491_man.pdf - page 6

(without inverting the VCLFO CV), then I patched in all the other VCOs and other modules I had at the time.

I guess that's the joy and pain of real synths and why I'm having so much more fun since I put away childish plugins.

After all, if random processes (including both the modules and my 'what happens if I put that in there' approach) were easily reproducible they would be neither random nor fun.

I'm trying (slightly) more structured pieces at the moment and also investigating videos (thanks to Doug for his advice).

Cheers, Nick

Today's favourite CD: Neil Young, Living with war

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
