Looking for Eurorack version of Binary Zone

2010-04-12 by markfrancombe

Hi,

In an attempt to tidy up my modular mess.. Im intending soon to move my Blacet modules to a different purpose (or sell them).. Im hoping that one particular case will just contain Euro modules to tidy up the multiple psus in that box..

The one module from Blacet that I cant find in another manufacture (that I use ALOT) is the very wonderful Binary Zone. I have a few and find myself sequencing them rather than almost any other sequencer I have.

Any options you guys know about?

Mark

I am not familiar with Blacet stuff at all. The description on the page of
Blacet is rather minimalistic (to not say 'rather cryptic if you are not
familiar with their product line').
It would help if you would enlighten us on which functions are important for
you.
It seems like a killer module.

Hello Mark, I have the Binary Zone. You could patch something similar to
that module using the any clock or Square LFO to drive Doepfer A-160,
summing all outputs from A-160, take that sum and lag with slew limiter
(such as MATHS). The mixer level controls will be the column of knobs
along the right side. You get greater control of lag by using a more
full featured slew limiter module (like turn lag on/ off and etc...)

But honestly, why sell the Blacet stuff? It works great with all the
euro modules, no hassles. Personally, I keep a couple rows of Frac
stuff, because they are some great modules.

Hmm Thanks Tony for clearing this up!
I'm going to try this with my A160, some mixers and an A171.. nice.

Wow.. it took me a long time to answer this suggestion... Must have missed it in the Digest..
Thanks Tony...

Im NEARLY getting your sugestion.. Here Im trying to clarify..
TO EMULATE A BINARY ZONE

So when you say sum the out of the 160 clock divider... do you mean patch each division into a mixer? (Which Doeper mixer?)

Will that that produce CV...???

GENIUS!
I thought the 160 was just for triggers and such like... Your suggestion for slew is understood, but un-necessary as I HATE that slewing effect on the Binary Zone...

For those who asked what the Binary Zone does...
Well its a very clever sequencer of sorts.. that makes a particular type of sequence. Its basicaly 4 synced squarewaves, and each knob handles a different speed squarewave... so knob 1 handles up down notes at 32nd beats.. knob 2 handles notes of 16ths, 3- 8ths and 4 2nd notes.. thats it!!! But you can get suprisingly long and varying sequences out of it, and combiuned witha a quantiser its fun to dial up random but musically pleasing tunes with a simple turn of a knob!

and those who asked.. why sell) I may not sell actually... but Im wanting to put a few modules into a suitcase as a kind of "on the road" system.. and then I only want ONE PSU system...
