Do these three filters contain similar chips as they all share the 106? Is the A-106.6 just an "expander" version of the A-106.5?

no. they seem to be quite different designs.

Thanks for the replies. I was kinda hopping they covered similar ground so my filter choice would be narrowed down! I think I will replace my 121 with the 106-6 (loads of uses, Love some of the demos, has an "alien" sound to it in some of them) my 120 with the 108 (Daft Punk filter! In some of the demos it sounds close to my old Mutator). Can anyone recommend a classy "vintage" sounding filter, a little less extreme than the 108, somthing creamy and nice? 105, 106-5, 122?

Another question. Which Doepfer module acts as a combi filter? Is it the BBD module?

No,

106-1 is an MS20 VCF adoption (as far as I know using a combination of 
three transistors and an opamp as kind of OTA).

106-5 is the 12db/oct state variable filter from the Oberheim SEM module 
(or Formant 12dB VCF) and uses CA3080A

106-6 is an adaption of the Oberheim Xpander Filter which uses a CEM3372 
(different possible slopes 6//12/18/24dB)

according to my taste, the a108 is classic vintage sounding... (moogish...?)

also, the a105 has a nice smooth sound with lots of bass.

If you want to replace filter modules, then I'd recommend:
* A105 as replacement for the A120 (the A105 is technically extremely 
close to the Mutator!). This is for the thick fat basses, great singing 
resonances. If you want the Kraftwerk Zongggg-Bassdrum, then use this one.
* A106-5 as replacement for the A121 which should provide the classy, 
less extreme vintage sound. (In fact the A121 circuit is very similar to 
the OB-Xa 12dB Filter, where the A106 is the Oberheim SEM 12dB Filter).
* A106-1 or A102 for the crude dirty stuff. Maybe also A101-1.

Please keep in mind: replacing the A121 by the A106-6 does not make much 
sense. Though you have different slopes, the basic sound is identical. 
both use basically the same filter chip (A121 uses the CEM3320, where 
A106-6 uses CEM3372, which is a 3320 plus two VCAs). Soundwise they are 
quite similar!

Bakis is right....
The A108 IS great as creamy vintage sounding filter.
Bear in mind that the Emphasis (resonance) and the Audio Level pots on this
module go 'beyond 11'.
If try the A108 with less extreme settings it sounds perfectly 'Moogish'.
