speaking of res loops (rs120)..
i was playing around w the res loop on an AS rs110 last night
when suddenly a patch i made caused the audio to go away and
not come back by undoing the patch. i patched an a140 output to
the resonance loop's input (nothing connected to res loop's
output.) and 'blip', out goes the signal. i thought i had a bad
cable or jack, traced the signal problem to the filter, it had
stopped passing audio, was 'locked up'. that is, until i wiggled
the freq knob on the rs110, then the sound came back w a
screech. i assume the filter went into self-oscillation at an
inaudible freq when i plugged in the a140. anybody know if is
this harmful? either way, anybody know more about possibly
harmful patches?
i'm generally a plug-anything-to-anything experimentor but this
has me wondering if it's possible to abuse a circuit to death.

That's interesting. I have a "factory"-assembled Blacet Final Filtre
that occasionally gets effed up and quiet and behaves oddly, but returns
to normal functioning after being turned off for awhile. Not sure what
causes that behavior either. In that case, though, I suspect some kind
of actual flaw in the circuit or a bad part.

Yes this may happen. The A121 has a capacitor which prevents this
selfresonace at inaudible high frequencies. But on the other hand this
capacitor causes the Highpassfilter to be something more like a kind of
Bandpass with 12dB/Oct at the "lower side" and 6dB/Oct on the "upper side"
at 5 or 6 octaves higher Frequency.

No.

Yes there are: Have a look at these adapters:

I once asked Dieter about it and he replied that all modules has a
short-circuit protection build in so it shouln´t be possible to
destroy modules - Doepfer modules anyway. :-)

Florian, that is sick and twisted.... i like it
but it is still sick.

Re: stuck filter

I just want to say that I really love the sound of the rs120 multimode.
Very warm.

But far as the RES loop, about the only thing I've done is put the
notch out into it and it gives a brighter results. Bob told me they
added the res in/out by just tweeking the circuit and found these two
modes that seemed interesting and added it to the faceplate.

Can anyone give me some great examples of the use of the res loop? I
am really curious.

thanks in advance,

P

i think that's the rs110 you're referring to as multimode (not
rs120), anyway. yes, i agree. it is a most warm, pleasant
sounding filter.
as for the res loop, i really enjoy patching a spring reverb into it
(res out -> reverb in, reverb out-> res in). but more so, a roland
space echo (via a181), i'm sure any delay would do. also, for
timberal shifting, patching a fully animated a136 (w slow lfo
controlling +L and -L) adds a wonderfully thin layer of overdrive
and misbehaviour, also a124 wasp is interesting in the
misbehaviour dept.
basically, sound processors work great in the res loop and are
generally subtle, even w an otherwise heavy-handed processor
patched in. no luck w cv processors. (that's how i temporarily
rendered mine silent)
