Is the A-119 module necessary as a microphone pre-amp if I'm using an
A-129/5 VUV module with the A-129/1 & 129/2, or can a microphone be
plugged directly into the Speech Input on the A-129/5? Thanks, Matt

You need a kind of line signal for the speech input. It does not have to 
be a preamplified by an A-119. YOu may use any standalone mic preamp or 
the preamps of a mixinig desk and go from them insert send into the A100
