I just ordered one to power a small 3u rack i have here and it was only
after ordering that i noticed the comments about the power instability.

Is it really that bad? just wondering if I should return it and get the #1
kit

I have found the DIY #2 is not very good if you have VCOs (especially 
multiple VCOs) in that rack, for sequencers and most other modules I've 
found it to be absolutely fine
