Dark Energy: Velocity + ADSR

Dark Energy: Velocity + ADSR

2011-05-30 by kloppe_andrew

Not sure if what i am asking is possible. So....

What do i have to patch in order for my note-velocity to work together with my envelope?

1. I tried patching the output:envelope to the input:VCA A. however, in this case the velocity is not reflected.

I tried patching the output:CV3 (I enabled velocity via midi-learn) to the input:VCA A. In this case i hear the velocities reflected. However, then i have a permanent tone. It never decay's; until i play the next note, etc.

So my question is. Is it possible to Velocity and Envelop work together?

Appreciate any help.

Best.

It's not possible without additional hardware.
To combine the ADSR with velocity they need to be multiplied together,
rather than added, and the DE simply doesn't have that feature available.

So, you'd need another VCA.

Don't know if you can get "good enough" by:-

Set VCA source to ADSR,
turn up AM full.
Patch CV3 to VCA A.

Then starting with
Attack 0
Decay ??
Sustain 10
Release 0

..and messing with VCA Amp control

it *may* be possible that while the Velocity
is still changing the amplitude the ADSR is strong enough to
keep on gating the signal.

If it works, then it might be worth fiddling with the Sustain and Decay controls
and see if anything useful occurs, ...but I suspect that using the Attack control
will give the problem of a delay to the start of the note.

I haven't tried it , just guessing.

At the risk of telling you the obvious, you might like to patch
CV3 to VCF F

...or maybe someone else figured this out much better than I did ;-)

Thanks ;

yes i tried patch CV3 to VCF F. The problem i had was the permanent signal/tone and the end of the ADSR envelope. VElocity works, but again the volume just doesn't decay to the inaudible.

I tried fiddling with the suggestion.

THat said, i just gave up. As you suggested i get the sense its not really possible with Dark Energy, as it comes out of the box.

Cheers.

Please refer to the FAQ page of our website:

www.doepfer.com > FAQ > Dark Energy > Dark Energy generates a permanent tone

As alread said by Andy: if you want to "multiply" the ADSR by the velocity
an additional external VCA is required.

Best wishes
