mini-case plan suggestions

mini-case plan suggestions

2011-11-19 by Andras Hargitai

hello,

I've finally come up with a mini-system for sound processing purposes
that would include:

2 x A-145's (VC LFO)
1 x A-125 (VC Phase Shifter)
1 x A-106-5 (SEM Filter)

So the question is the following: It's still not 100% clear to me
whether the sound will be powerful enough this way or a VCA is a must
for this setup.
Also, I'd welcome comments of any kind along these lines!
Thanks in advance.

Best,
András

Hiya András!

You'll probably want to boost the incoming signal with, say, an A-183-3 amplifier. I can vouch for the A-106-5's awesomeness. Have fun with that setup! :D

All the best,
Zoë.

Thanks Zoe!
On the other hand, it means, I need to give up one of the LFO's. I am dreaming about 2 of them, since I'd love to modulate the filter and the phaser at the same time. Plans for the inputs of the system would be a CDJ or a Slim Phatty or a vinyl record to give you some examples... These are amplified signals already, so my question was whether it was essential to have a VCA in that system? In case of VCO's I know it is, though I wonder if amplified signals would be already fine. If not, I'd give up one of the LFO's then...
Thanks again!

Thanks much! I think I'll bag them this way then. :)
Thanks for helping!
I'll probably post the results as soon as I'll have them.

Hi again András!

Well, the easiest way to be sure is to buy everything you need, except with only one LFO and no amplifier. Then plug everything in and work out whether it's loud enough. If not, get the amp, otherwise treat yourself to that second LFO.

All I know from personal experience is that I can use the A-183-3 to (amongst other things) bring my Edirol R-09 sound recorder up to the kind of level the A-110 oscillators achieve, so I suspect you'll need an A-183-3 too, but I don't know for sure.

Hope that helps,
Zoë.
