Broken A-124

Broken A-124

2014-04-13 by Zoë Blade

Hi gang!

I bought an A-124 Wasp filter the other day, and finally got a chance to try it out today... but I think it's broken. The bandpass output is silent, and the LP/HP output is silent for the LP part and audible for the HP part, but it doesn't sound particularly filtered. I've checked I plugged it in correctly, front and back. My partner Nina and I have both had a quick look at the board (she's much more up on electronics than I am), and neither of us can see anything visibly wrong with the circuit board. No dry solder joints or anything of that kind.

Is there anything else I can try doing, or am I going to have to post it back to the shop in Germany? If there's anything I can do myself, I'd really appreciate anyone's suggestions.

Thanks,
Zoë.

Hi,

Judging by the amount of threads/posts on muffs, this seems to be a particular problem with the A-124.
The common cause is that the 14-pin IC marked "4069 usually goes and leads to these issues... it even happened to me.
The chips are easily obtainable and cheap and also easy to replace.... if yours is not still under warranty.

Good luck, it's a great filter aside from this little quirk.

Great, thank you very much! I've sent off for some 4069 chips, which are certainly cheaper and less hassle than sending this back. :) I can't wait to hear this filter!

Thanks,
Zoë.

If the module is new please return it to the dealer where you purchased the
module. If you try to do the repair yourself the warranty is void !

Best wishes

Final series A-111-1

2014-04-25 by yahoo@doepfer.de

I just wanted to inform you all that the very last batch CEM3340 arrived
from our supplier and we start to manufacture the definitely last production
series of the A-111-1 module. If you ever considered to order this module
this is the last chance.

Best wishes

Hi Dieter, I am considering buying the A-111-1 module but am concerned that should the chip go down in the future am I left with an unusable module?

Regards, Lee.

I understand you concerns. But we had not more than 3 or 4 A-111-1 repairs
with defective CEM3340 during the last 15 years. The CEM3340 is sensitive
against short circuits or electrostatic charging. But as soon as it is built
into a module with suitable circuitry and the module is connected in the
right way to the A-100 bus board the CEM3340 is very reliable from our
experience. And in the worst case I'm quite sure that one will find a single
CEM3340 even in the future (e.g. you can find currently CEM3340 on Ebay for
US$80 + shipping). And of course we will keep some CEM3340 as spare parts
after the A-111-1 is sold out.

Hi,

I have my a-111-1 for 8 or 9 years now and it still working like the day it has arrived. It's a great and very stable oscillator.

All the best!
