Hi i was wondering if the Akai LPK 25 ( or ther usb midi keyboards ) get their power from the 190-3 USB jack. is somebody using a midi keyboard without own power supply with this module? or is a midi keyboard with its own power needed? just asking before i rush to fetch a mini usb to usb b type cable. best felix

Hi! If I remember correctly (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while), the A-190-3 is used to plug your A-100 into a computer, so the A-100's the slave/client/peripheral, and the computer's the master/server/thing in charge. So you can't hook the A-190-3 to a MIDI keyboard directly, you can hook up both that *and* a MIDI keyboard to some third device (such as a computer, and probably not much else). Then the keyboard will likely be drawing power from that device. Hope that helps, Zoë.

As far as I know, yes, that's right. With regular MIDI, it's just sending the data across, no power, and it's very simple, so anyone with a bit of engineering knowledge can make a MIDI client or server. This means there's a wealth of both, with a lot of devices doing both at once. Which is nice. With USB, it's a great unified solution to a lot of peripheral problems (as anyone who remembers serial and parallel ports can attest to, let alone SCSI) but that means having this rigid adherence to a master/slave dynamic, and it being too complex behind the scenes for most people to implement the master side of it. So a regular non-USB MIDI keyboard should plug into it just fine, but you'll also need to plug it into something else to power it, as you say. If it's any consolation, if you plug a keyboard and the Doepfer into a computer, there really isn't any noticeable delay. The tech's so fast these days, there's probably a bigger delay now between the speakers and your ears, given the speed of sound and all. :) All the best, Zoë.

Hello Brian,
I just saw your A-141 pictures on the MF forum.Unfortunately it's not the A-141 version I'm looking for.Still... I may be interested by your A-131 modules. What version are these ?If there are LM324 or TL074 socketed ICs on your modules then I'd like to take two of these A-131s .(these were made from 2001 to 03/13).But if you have unsocketed THAT2159/V2159/SA2159 ICs (made from 03/13) then I'm not interested...
Cheers,Thomas
