Hi,

I'm wondering if there are any other A100 users in my area? I bought my A100 Basic System 2 from eBay. One of the a140's is not working. The seller has ordered a new one for me - but I'm wondering if the not working one can be fixed. It is not triggering so hard to tell how bust it is as it doesn't do anything. Any one know of anyone in North London / Hertfordshire who might have a look?

I'm really enjoying the A100 - certainly living up to expectations. I'm still to try using the clock sequencer and the noise / random - I may wait till the new A-140 is here for that as I wanted to make noise "chiffs" with it sequences along with bass lines driven by my SH101.

And speaking of the SH101 - it's my only v/ octave synth (others are Korg MS series and hertz/volts). What keyboards do people find useful? What I'd like is is simple keyboard with gate and cv outs and hopefully a bend wheel and a mod wheel with separate cv outs. Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Are you using the front panel gate input of the A-140 as opposed to the system bus? Try wiggling the plug going into the socket. Sometimes when my A-100 modules aren't responding, it is just a poor connection at the socket. If trying to use the system bus, it could still be the socket, since if the pin is lifted there is no "normalized" connection

I'm also a bit curious how you plan to patch a lone bender CV..... One of two VCOs, filter cutoff? I too have an SH-101 as well as several MIDI/CV convertors, but I most often use a Doepfer joystick for "performing" CV sweeps rather than set up a midi signal.

Doepfer does make a pitch and mod wheel device for building DIY keyboards. Perhaps you could throw one of those together as a standalone unit parked next to the 101.

Yep I was going in from the front panel. And wiggling didn't seem to help in afraid. It could then still be a dodgy socket - I had bit thought that that could short the system buss too.

I would patch the bender cv by adding it to the main cv for pitch - to both OSC or to one using synch to make some interesting harmonics. Or patch it to filter etc. just seemed more useful if bit hard wired to the keyboards cv all the time.

Most people simply use a MIDI-keyboard and an MIDI->CV/Gate interface.
MIDI keyboards are that dirt cheap, it doesn't make sense to buy a
dedicated CV keyboard.

I've been having a bad experience with MIDI recently. My old Midisport 8x8's worked fine - but a new computer and there are no drivers for them with latest Mac. So I looked around and found the NOTU Midi Express 128 - all the info says they work with latest Mac. But they don't!! Motu and Apple are supposed to be sorting it but I have no working Midi!! :-( But my good old SH101 works fine with the Doepfer A100, my trusty Korg MS20 (since I was 15, 34 years ago!!) works fine with my SQ10 and I can synch them with a Korg MonoTribe or indeed an LFO!! I guess I will return to Midi soon - as I can't leave my Waldorfs unused!

I'm loving making bizarre patches on the A100 system - and "normal" bases and sequences.

This wont be helpful at all but just FYI: That's a big fear I have when I upgrade! But after upgrading to Windows 7 my Midisport 8x8 is still working perfectly and I've heard it will work with Win 8 as well. Whew!!

Yeah I know!! But this was a forced upgrade - flood, fall and computer death all involved so had to have a new set up. There is hope that Apple / Motu will sort it out and then all will be fine with Midi again. But until then I'm really enjoying the simplicity of volts/octave and hertz/ volts with triggers :-)
