Replacing Vactrols in LPG

Replacing Vactrols in LPG

2015-07-22 by Neil Kagan

Hi to all of you,

I’m looking to replace the victors in my Doepfer A-010-2 Low Pass Gate, in order to get the longer ringing sound of Buchla gear. Would the VTL5C3 be the right one to go for?

Regards,

Neil

I think any vactrol will work in principle. But the vactrol type and the matching of the vactrols may affect the sound result
(frequency response/range, VCA amplification range). We select the two vactrols used in each A-101-2 module: same LDR resistance at
a certain LED current (about in the middle of the frequency range). That's not perfect because the response curve may still deviate
from this matching point but it's better than using totally unmatched vactrols.

Best wishes

Thanks for that Dieter, the model I had seen is apparently the classic type for a buchla sound.
