Hi! Does anyone know if it's possible to get the MCV-24 to output a trigger at the start of each note, for hooking up to the A-140's retrigger input? At the moment I shorten all my notes a little so they don't overlap, which is a bit time consuming, even selecting a whole instrument's worth at a time. Thanks, Zoë.

hi Zoe, have you set (on the mcv24) the 'Retrigger Time' to 001 or 002 ? (instead of 000). this should solve your problem. thanks,Bakis. Bakis Sirros - Parallel Worlds | [Doepfer_a100] group owner | www. parallel - worlds - music. com | www. facebook. com/ parallelworldsmusic | www. DiN. org. uk

Subject: [Doepfer_a100] MCV-24 trigger output?
Hi!
Does anyone know if it's possible to get the MCV-24 to output a trigger at the start of each note, for hooking up to the A-140's retrigger input? At the moment I shorten all my notes a little so they don't overlap, which is a bit time consuming, even selecting a whole instrument's worth at a time.
Thanks,

Hello Bakis! > have you set (on the mcv24) the 'Retrigger Time' to 001 or 002 ? (instead of 000). > this should solve your problem. This was many months ago, so I could well be misremembering it, but I *believe* I tried this and instead of being able to send a trigger in addition to the gate (as per http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov99/articles/synthsecrets.htm ), it would quickly turn the gate off and on again with each new note. But as it naturally can't predict the future, that means the second overlapping note onwards is delayed with respect to the first. Manually shortening them trims their end point instead of their start point, which, although tedious, results in better timing. So I was hoping to get it to output short trigger bursts in addition to one long, uninterrupted gate, for all the overlapping notes. > Bakis Sirros - Parallel Worlds | [Doepfer_a100] group owner | www. parallel - worlds - music. com | www. facebook. com/ parallelworldsmusic | www. DiN. org. uk Oh, hey, DIN! I bought quite a few DIN albums a few months ago. Very nice! Thanks, Zoë.

You'd need an additional output for this. The trigger bursts are not on top of the gate. A gate represents a status A trigger represents a timestamp These are two different things, which need different signal pathes.

Yes, that's what I'm hoping to do. I'd be happy to sacrifice the SIX4ONE patch's aftertouch outputs for trigger ones, if it's possible. Or if it can't output triggers in addition to gates, is there another MIDI to CV converter that can? Thanks, Zoë.

I remember that the Doepfer Trigger-Delay module changes gates in triggers. Pieter Am 02.06.2016 um 12:14 schrieb Zoë Blade zoe@bytenoise.co.uk [Doepfer_a100]:

> I remember that the Doepfer Trigger-Delay module changes gates in triggers. That's a nice module, but alas I think it won't help with this particular issue. The MCV-24 would still give multiple overlapping notes a single gate, which that module could change into a trigger, but still just the one trigger, not the several required. Though combining the trigger delay module with a VCD and an OR module can make a nice envelope for turning white noise into claps. (It took my partner and I a short while with her trusty oscilloscope to figure out why that particular patch shouldn't work and yet why it actually does, hehe...) Thanks, Zoë.

The quantizer should do it for notes with different pitches (but not for
notes with the same pitch).

> I'd probably just make copy of the midi track, but route that to another channel/output for the trigger signal. Should work, right? Hmm... so leave it as it currently is for the gate, and also copy it to another MIDI channel, truncate all the notes of the copy so they're essentially short triggers, and use that second channel's gate output as a trigger for the ADSR envelope generator? That's a neat idea, thanks!
