R2M Manual Ribbon controller - 1U row installation

Re: [Doepfer_a100] Re: R2M Manual Ribbon controller - 1U row installation

sorry, I didn't put it out clearly

I meant to ask if somebody ever tried to customize the manual ribbon controller in order to be installed onto the 1U row which can be found on some eurorack case, beside the usual 3U row. ;

as for the topic here, yes it likely would require a custom panel, cut to host the ribbon, 84HP wouldn't be enough, though the ribbon controller is not a eurorack module

your question indeed would be a different topic, few 1U modules can be set vertically on 3U row taking 8hp

Can't help on this too, but I would be interested in the topic in
general: How to convert 8HP/ 3U modules to 1U modules. The 8HP is 40.30
mm wide, 1HU is 44.45mm. So one would have to create a new front panel.
Am I right?

Right, you're asking about rackmounting the ribbon controller itself into 1U, not the module it connects to, which is staying 3U and 8HP.

I just had a quick look though, and the ribbon controller is slightly longer than a 19" rack is wide, so I don't think it's going to happen. A shame, as on the other axis, it is thin enough to fit the 1U rack height. (You mention cutting it to fit, and I have no idea if it works that way, sorry.)

Someone could hypothetically make a 1U ribbon controller (say, with 1V/Oct and gate out, so it's compatible with more than just the one Doepfer module), but I think it would need to be designed that way, rather than cut up. I don't think there'd be much demand for one, and as a one-off it would be quite expensive and/or time consuming to build.

I'd settle for having the ribbon controller in front of the rack, on a desk. It's more comfortable at that angle, anyway.

Sorry I couldn't help!

I'm sorry, this will not work because the position sensor is longer than
19". The active area of the position sensor is 500 mm plus the area required
for the connector (~ 70mm). That's more than 19" which is about 483 mm. It's
not possible to shorten the positions sensor without damaging the sensor (in
contrast to the pressure sensor which can be easily shortened).

Best wishes

Thanks, though I imagined a row longer than 84hp, there's some on sale of 90HP, 104HP, 1 row @ 3U + 1 row @ 1U. I do believe that Intellijel makes it. Of course, then it would require some work to manufacture a panel to host the Manual.

Then it should be no problem. Simply mount the R2M manual to a 1U blind
panel by means of the four M3 threads at the bottom of the R2M manual
housing. The lenght of the R2M manual is ~ 600 mm (plus the USB connector).
If the width of the case is more it should work. I'd recommend to keep the
housing as it guarantees the mechanical stability required for the pressure
and position sensors.

Re: [Doepfer_a100] R2M Manual Ribbon controller - 1U row installation

2016-11-14 by Diego Ragnini

oh yes, I did believe the ribbon being 500 mm, unfortunately the largest intellijel case is 537.3 mm,
so I might opt to build a handle wooden top for the A-100LC3 to make the case portable, wider enough for hosting the ribbon and containing left and right small cases for the 2 PSU's. After transport the ribbon can be layered on the top of the case or anywhere else. The only issue would be for hand luggage on planes, typically asking to stay within 55cm length.

I thank you a lot for support

Best regards

Hi,Have you considered building your own case? Clicks And Clocks in Berlin sell 4U frames (a 126HP frame is 646mm wide so the controller will fit easily), if you have basic DIY skills it shouldn't be too difficult.Hope this helps!
