Without Rotary Knobs

Without Rotary Knobs

2017-06-09 by a11@live.nl

Hi everybody,

Could it be possible to buy a module without rotary knobs?
Because you can save some money, if you intend to replace them.

I doubt you save money. The knobs are maybe 70 cents worth each, makes Euro 3,50 for a mixer. The time to pick the module from big basket, taking it out of the safetybag, pulling the knobs off, checking the module, stuffing it back to the bag, putting it aside for your special order. Lets say 10 Minutes per module. With the average brutto brutto price for the workers time (not the workers income, but what a producer has to take in account all in all): this makes 12 to 15 Euros. So if you are willing to pay 8,50 more...

I believe that everybody had the same thought (is it really about saving money?), of course there’s no way know what’s wrong with those default knobs and, mainly, why music is not enough catchy for someone… having to fight against potentiometers?

P.S.: Florian, I had never heard the expression “brutto brutto”, I find it is lovely, please tell me, is it usual in Germany or what..?

Yes, that is the price, Doepfer has to ask for the work to sell you a single knob. The price consists of:

* The price that Doepfer pays for the knob at the knobmaker (assumingly around 30cts, because they buy it in large quantities). plus
* The time it takes to walk to the shelf in the basment, search the right drawer, pull the drawer, pick the knob from the drawer, check it, get back to the packing station, pack it. At least three minutes (and that is assumingly fast). Plus
* The percentage on office-rent, stuffs-salaries, insurances, you name it...

Some times it is quite frustrating, to understand economics.

Hello Diego

ok, this is quite off-topic, but may be interesting:

We do not use it in the italian meaning (where it means "ugly").

"Brutto" in german means "gross" in english. "Brutto für Netto" means "gross for net".

I think one has to know, that in Germany the taxes and health insurance and social security insurances are part of the income of an employee, but they are subtracted already at the employers office and are paid directly to the tax office and the public insurances. Additionally the employer pays 50 percent of the health insurance and social security insurances.

There is a "netto salary" which is the money that arrives at the bank account of the employee
There is a "brutto salary" which is the netto plus the taxes and insurances already paid via the employer
And there is the "brutto brutto salary" which is the employees brutto income plus all the additional costs that result froming having an employee: the social insurance percentage, the partial rent for the room the employee needs and similar proportional costs.

If you want some examples check
http://www.brutto-netto-rechner.info/gehalt/gehaltsrechner-arbeitgeber.php
Enter some monthly income at "Bruttolohn" and the press "berechnen".
The result page lists
* Taxes ("Steuer")
* Insurances percentag paid by the employee ("Sozialabgaben Arbeitnehmer")
* Insurances percentage of the employer ("Sozialabgaben Arbeitgeber")
And there are still other costs per employ, an employer has to take in account...

As we sell our modules in the meantime in the usual way (manufacturer >
distributor > dealer) it's impossible to offer the modules with or without
knobs. The dealer would have to order a module without knobs as a custom
order from the distributor and the distributor from the manufacturer. The
charges for the organizational efforst for such a custom order would exceed
by far the price of the knobs.

Best wishes
