Subject: Re: Is there something wrong with my VCA? Hi Ethan Yes, I have noticed this also. This was right from the beginning when I bought my new rows basic system 2 (sorry, earlier I said wrongly mini-system). When I opened the filter right to Q, there was an abrupt transition. I never liked that and wondered, but thought, that it was normal for any filter. Learning more bout filters, I know no that it's typical for this Doepfer filter and it's certainly not normal for other filters. A really great filter for example I have in my Moog prodigy. This filter doesn't distort and goes smoothly into self oscillation. It never loses it's beauty and when you decrease the cut off, you can evoke marvelous space effects! Yes, the A-121 has the same fault. The second best filter which I have so far is the A-122. This is a superb filter which goes into self oscillation smoothly and never sounds shrill just before that point. Decreasing the cutt off again can result in great effects. Even better is the A-123, this one tracks constantly the whole way. Using Q and decreasing the cut off again gives way to all sorts of interesting nasal sounds which beg to be treaded even more! Roel Ethan wrote: That's odd, I was just going to email hardware@d... and ask the same thing about my A120 and A121 filters. I recently noticed a sharp decrease in the output of my A120 compared to the output of my A121 and I also noticed excessive distortion in my A121 when the Q is high. Maybe if enough of us plead with doepfer they'll translate the service manual to english. Ethan
