tuning

2003-01-24 by kali_the_black <poictesme@earthlink.net>

Hi all.
Up untill the other day I haven't bothered using a chromatic tuner
for my oscillators. When I did use one I found an interesting
phenomenon. when tuning to any note my a-110 was so flat that the
potentiometer did not allow it to be tuned up as far as it needed to
go. Do you think that this could be an artifact of multing my cv
signal before sending to my a-110 and a-111 (the only osc modules I
have)?

It really hasn't mattered when I use single osc sounds or when
syncing the oscillators, but for what I was doing it was
important... I really don't want to have to tune all my other
insturments down just to accomodate one oscillator.

Thanks,
Ben

Yes that's what I think.

I don't remember off hand, but it's a pretty serious tuning
difference. I thought that the drop in voltage caused by using
multiples was enough to make a difference in tuning across a range,
but not the same difference across the board.
I'll check that out when I get home tonight...

Is there a calibration for the tuning inside the module that can be
adjusted?

thanks.
ben

Hi Ben,

If you need to go to that extent, the full module set-up procedure is
described in the A-110 Service Manual, which is available on
Doepfer's website (go to th 110 module description). From memory it's
pretty straightforward: let it warm up; adjust the scale so that 1V
jumps double the frequency; set the absolute frequency so that 0V
input gives the correct pitch. There's also an adjustment for
temperature, but I think you have to temporarily de-solder something
to do it.

It will be a simple test to use the tuner again, with one VCO,
without the multiples. That will answer the question.

A voltmeter measurement of the raw CV, and then the CV patched thru an
A180 multiples, is also quite revealing, even if the voltage isn't
"split"
