RE: [Doepfer_a100] another filter

2003-03-25 by David Salter

John,

I too own the Sy02 and love it, I used to own an MS20 and this filter is
so close it's scary.

If Doepfer produce their own clone I will not buy it (why when I have it
already).

I agree also with your statement regarding different modules. The A100
range is fantastic in it's diversity. While other manufactures are
producing mostly standard modules, Doepfer are offering modules that
allow far more lateral thinking towards sound design. It's this attitude
that made companies like Buchla and Serge popular with the more
innovative synthesis's.

So Dieter, please concentrate on the different, the odd and if you go
down the route of making available modules from the past (I love it when
you do) look at those that offer something outside the norm.

I still want to see a "source of uncertainty" and a VCO that is truly
different, I.e. something looking like the filter bank in looks but each
control attenuates a sine wave of different frequencies for additive
creation, or an envelope that not only has breakpoints but is multistage
with the ability to set loop points (I use my A155's for this at the
moment), or how about ...... the list goes on.

Regards

	Hi,
The Korg MS20 filter is easily one of my favourites, you can
recognise it anywhere. That is the reason I bought the Analogue
Solutions SY02 (and an MS10), this filter is so close to the
korg.

Dieter has mentioned a few times that he doesn't see the point
in
making modules that are being made by other companies, AS
already
make it. My opinion is don't waste time and money making this
filter
when you could be making something new like the A107 or chaos
module. I don't think I'll buy one even if you do put new CV
inputs
on it, but probably everyone else will and be your best selling
	module :-D

People have asked before and I am now agreeing with them, how
about
	a new VCO?
Doepfer have about 14 filters and only 2 VCO's, one of which is
	close to extinction (a111).

What about a new style ADSR, like the korgs have 'Break Point'
and 'slope' on their old ones.

I'm sure this will cause a discussion :-D

	John.
