new info from doepfer about the SOU buchla module!!!

dieter say: "I'm just back so there are no news since my last email. The A-105 will be manufactured with the next series of A-100 modules. So I hope it will be available end of May (without obligation). The A-107 will still take some time as we have to wait for the new prototypes of the pc board and the front panel before we are able to integrate the A-107 into the production line. So the A-107 will not be able before June (without obligation). During my holidays I dealed a little bit with the different features of the two Buchla SOUs 265 and 266. From my point of view both versions are very interesting. We think about a module (or even more) that include the features of both modules. E.g. the 2 power N and 2N+1 was not available for the 265. We also think about more outputs (e.g. the "noisy triangle" output) of internal functions of the SOU. Any ideas from the group, especially from users/experts of both 265 and 266 SOU. At the moment it is a little bit a problem for us to find out which functions are more or less useful for A-100 users. We understand all the electronics of both Buchla SOUs (different noise and random sources, S&H's, low frequency vactrol filters and LFOs). But we have some problems to see the musical applications of all these functions. E.g. we understand how the 2 power N and 2N+1 voltages are generated but we cannot see what they do in musical respects. OK, they are quantized analog voltages derived from the outputs of a shift register that works as a slow digital noise (like a slow A-117 with different weighed shift register outputs) but what does this mean from the musical point of view - e.g. compared to an A-118 random output processed with the Quantizer A-156. If anyone has available the user's manuals of 265 and 266 (not the schematics) this would help us to understand the musical side of the circuits. B.t.w. the SOU use vactrol techniques too (low pass filter, rectangle oscillator) so that we could combine a little bit the vactrol and SOU research. But probably we will do some jobs of the SOU with microprocessors (e.g. digital noise, 2 power N and 2N+1). But the filtering will be pure analog with vactrols." SO, IF ANYONE CAN HELP DIETER ON THIS...?????? BAKIS. ===== synthfreak(parallel worlds) athens-greece [Doepfer_a100] group owner __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
