Yeah, the non-moog clone are possibly too much for what they are, but then again, never underestimate the market for overpriced synthesizers, MOTM is supposedly doing quite well! -Brandon __________________________________ The last time anyone listened to a Bush they wandered through the desert for 40 years! ___________________________________

I own several modulars from several manufactures and the MOTM quality is outstanding. For example: take in a electronics store 8 switchcraft 112 jacks (total 20$) 8 spectrol hi grade pots (total 50$) and 8 alco knobs (25$). You spent about 100$ and also you´ll need the pcb, the electronics, the front panel... Where is the inflated price??? Josue. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Sure, but do we know that the CoK modules aren't using similarly over-spec'ed parts? The fact remains that both give sticker shock initially and require some amount of validation of what appears to be an inflated price. The question each synthesist then needs to ask themselves in the case of MOTM: "Do I value these over-spec'ed parts enough to make the price difference worth it"? That's a personal preference, not an automatic value. -Brandon ___________________________________ The last time anyone listened to a Bush they wandered through the desert for 40 years! ___________________________________

What do you mean with this, Brandon? "The fact remains that both give sticker shock initially and require some amount of validation of what appears to be an inflated price" Do you get shocks when inserting cables into modules of this brand or is this just a feeling you high prices? I happend to like motm, and if you build the kits it gets cheaper. Still they prices are just high enough to have kept me from buying it, but I can see why people do. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brandon Daniel" <bdu@fdiskc.com> To: <Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 1:15 AM Subject: Re: [Doepfer_a100] OT:again ,about the club of the knobs... > On Tue, 13 May 2003, Josue Arias wrote: > > > MOTM don`t have inflated prices. Sorry, I forget sometimes that people who are not native english speakers sometimes misunderstand special sayings like this. In english "Sticker Shock" means "surprise at a high price on an item". In the future I'll try to not use these kinds of phrases on lists that I know have a high percentage of non-english speakers on them. > I happend to like motm, and if you >build the kits it gets cheaper. Ok, May be these part are over specs for some people, but not overpriced since you get that you pay.... Best regards, Josue.

Bakis, In spite of the fact that you're "European", with your little cars, and your little streets in your little cities, and your haute cuisine served on trendy little plates, and are wholly biased against MOTM and other US manufacturers of LARGE modules... umm, never mind. You're absolutely correct. Regards, Kevin Disclaimer: If you've taken the above comment as serious, I suggest you borrow or purchase a sense of humor. --- In Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com, Bakis Sirros <synth_freak_2000@y...> wrote:

hi list, or some people think like i do:why buy a high-pass filter from club of the knobs(or MOTM or such...)when you can buy almost 4(!!!)high-pass doepfer filters for the same money and have countless more ins, outs and filter slopes,by combining all these modules in series or parallel.... bakis. --- Brandon <bdu@fdiskc.com> wrote: > 5/12/2003 10:40:18 PM, "Andreas Lindholm" > <andreas.k.lindholm@telia.com> wrote: > > >What do you mean with this, Brandon? > > > >"The fact remains that both give sticker shock > >initially and require some amount of validation of > what appears > to be an > >inflated price" > > > >Do you get shocks when inserting cables into > modules of this > brand or is > >this just a feeling you high prices? > > Sorry, I forget sometimes that people who are not > native english > speakers sometimes misunderstand special sayings > like this. > > In english "Sticker Shock" means "surprise at a high > price on > an item". > > In the future I'll try to not use these kinds of > phrases on lists that > I know have a high percentage of non-english > speakers on > them. > > > I happend to like motm, and if you > >build the kits it gets cheaper. I'd like to order one gallon of Us style humor, cause it seems to me that I always find things from the funny that are meant serious and vice versa ;) Speaking of very OT - is that deck of "wanted" cards a joke or not, and above all the new deck from the govenmental propaganda magazine that is targeting Susan Sarandon, Michel Moore and other critics. Please explain =) ----- Original Message -----

No problem Brandon. Feel free to use any local sayings you like it is always nice to learn something new. I am getting tired of that old "the straw that brakes the camels back" which by the way in swedish goes "little tuft of grass topples a chariot". What do you think, Bakis? ----- Original Message -----
