If the top two pins were bent, then it sounds like the bus connector 
was connected one pair of pins too low - this would then short the
-12V directly to ground, which fits with the symptoms you reported!

With some new fuses, and following Dieter's suggestions, hopefully 
you will be up and running OK!

No, the volts have been and are the right ones,
no doubt about that.
