a166 logic

2002-01-09 by duffnuff

hello everyone,
i noticed the a166 logic module is available..anybody tried it? i'd
love to hear what kinds of applications it could be used for. not
much info on the doepfer site other than a basic layout
description. seems pretty straight forward but i'm still not sure
how to put it to use. do you route gates and triggers into it, say,
from the 155, and have it sort through them? kind of like a cv
mixer but w either/or rather than mix? hmmmm

I could imagine patching the A160 Clock Divider sockets to the A166
Logic module to pick out more complex timing divisions. For example,
you might want to create A156 transposition voltages corresponding to
a 12-bar blues progression. This would be difficult using just the
A160, you'd have to create your own logic using a mixer for OR, a VCA
or the A150 VC Switch for AND, both halves of the A150 for XOR, and
the A165 Trigger Modifier for NOT.

thanks bakis, joe,
yes, that makes sense..easier to imagine other uses once i
understand one or two such as you mention. also, i've heard the
term 'gated clock' before but couldn't figure out what the hell it
means til now.
re availability, didn't realize the a166 is not out yet. one would
think it is, looking at the doepfer site. i saw it on the modules
overview page w the 'new' graphic gleaming back and forth. i
noticed it after going back to take another look at the 165 (after
reading it's praises again here in this forum). looks useful. i've
given the 165 some thought but now i might just have to check it
out. been using the 160, 161, 162 alot lately, trying to break up
the 8th note patterns of 155. seems like the 165 and 166 will
also be useful for this.
cheers,
duff

hi duff,
one simple use of it is to have gated clocks.by using
the AND function you can make the a155 receive clock
pulses only when you play a note on the keyboard(when
you send a gate signal...)but many of us will think of
many other uses,that's for sure!!i haven't tried
it.it's not available yet...
