modifications and DIY

Hi list,

did anyone try to modificate their modules in any way? Or do you even create
your own modules? Let us know.

I didn´t modify nothing so far. When I´ll get my A-127 one day the jumpers
to change between bandpass and lowpass will be replaced by switches [I
really can not understand Doepfer´s habit in using jumpers. I´d rather like
to see switches on the A-108 instead of those jumpers. Hey, I mean the
module would only be 2HP or 4HP wider. I´d pay the few Euros more for four
additional HP and four switches. What about you?)

Anyway. Back to the topic. DIY:
I´ve built two unpowered modules:
#1 is a minijack-to-1/4"jack converter with a inbuilt moog-a-like volume
pot.
#2 is a large multiple consisting of two three-way , one four-way and one
five-way-multiples.
I hope powered modules will follow...

Hi Paul

I modified the A-121 12dB State Variable Filter, corresponding to a hint
from Dieter Doepfer (In the original version there is a capacitor which
damps some unwelcome resonating behaviour at very high frequencies, but
this capacitor causes a -6dB decreas in the high frequencies in the
Highpass).

Most of the CV1 Input-sockets (VCOs and VCFs) do not switch off the CV-bus.
I broke up the lines on the PCB and rewired them in the way, that now the
socket is a switching socket.

I tried something similar like the A108 with the A122: I fed back the
resonance after 12dB; this sounds very nice, because at 12dB the resonance
is not as cutting and thin as with 24dB. But since it required a high
effort and switching between the two modes was very complicated, I turned
it back.

I built also some simple Modules for other people: CV- or audio-mixers,
AD-envelope, simple-VCAs, panners, step sequencers.

I made the fifth plug of the A-180 as switching socket, so if I plug in a
jack to the fifth socket, the sockets 1 to 4 are one group and sockets 5-8
are the other group.

I internally patched my A190 and A191 together. I suspect that if
these modules had been designed at the same time, there would have
been an internal ribbon connector between them, like the A160/161. My
A100 stays in the spare bedroom studio, so it didn't need to be a
terribly robust implementation - test leads with miniature alligator
clips did the job, and can be removed at any time.

I constantly forget to patch the Gate signal to my A141 VC ADSR. I
need to look at it and see if it already contains a shorting jack,
which would make it easy to attach a second bus connector for the Gate
signal. If not, I'd have to replace the jack, not sure how this would
go with PCB-mounted sockets.

Hey Florian

"I want to connect the default connections between A-129/1 and A-129/2
(using the switching contacts of the sockets)."

I've also been thinking about what other internal default patching
would be helpful. Perhaps the A190 Clock and Reset to the A155, the
oscillator mix to the filters, things like that. Your plan sounds like
it would save an awful lot of patching.

Hi Joe

Oh, that reminds me to some plan: I want to connect the default connections
between A-129/1 and A-129/2 (using the switching contacts of the sockets).
This gives me 15 patchcords back...
