new / introduction

2001-07-24 by bauke@darkambient.net

hi all,

first mail, so an introduction is in place. i'm bauke from utrecht,
netherlands. at this moment i don't have a doepfer yet, but i'm very
much considering making a deposit soon ;-)

things i hope to do are mainly influencing my other synths (waldorf
pulse, clavia micromod, teisco 60f) with modules like lfo's, theremin,
envelopes (for my guitar) and more like that.

the other thing i would love to do with it is the changing of sounds
(ringmod, envelopes, distortion (?) and loads of filters ...

so i will more likely turn to a 2 rack system with seperate modules.

any advice ?

thanks in advance,
bauke

Random LFO's, gotta love those! Looks like you definitely want at
least one A119 to put external input into your Doepfer A100 system.
The A119 has both an unbalanced input (for line level) and a balanced
input (mic/guitar). Of course, if you have a stereo path-way, you may
want to have TWO A119's, and everything else twice as well. This
excludes the LFO, because you probably would want the LFO synchronised
for both channels. So that would be one LFO and a multiples panel
(like the A180). My basic system has two LFO's (A145 and A146) but
you may also want to check out the A147's specs on the Doepfer site.
It adds LFO frequency control as a CV in. An easy way to accomplish
a random LFO that sort'a follows your music is to use a noise
generator (like A118) as a sample input for a Sample and Hold (A148).
Then trigger the A148 with something that's synchronised to your
music. For instance, if I use the A190 (MIDI/CV), I I can take its
gate output to trigger the S&H. In your case, where you may want to
react to external input, you could use the A119's gate out. I don't
actually have am A119 (yet), but I'm sure it's gonna work great.
The threshold control of the A119 let's you adjust exactly when the
gate outputs, based on the level of the input. Your S&H output
(which is now random and sync'ed) can be used to control for
instance the frequency of a filter. If you want your signal to
remain stereo, you will need two filters. I only have the filters
that come with the basic system, i.e. A120 and A121. I use the latter
(the multimode filter) the most, but there are a lot of other filters
available and I most certainly would like to try them out. I think I
will really enjoy owning an A122, a CEM3320 based 24 dB low pass
that is.

I just joined it myself too, and it doesn't look too busy. You can
access it via the www interface and see everything that's already
posted and how many members there are.

By the way, if you want to check out some modules in Utrecht before
you decide on what you want to buy, we might plan something.
Martijn (from The Music House) told me it was okay to visit some
day and check out modules, play around with them. I'm about to
buy some new modules myself (not sure if I will fill an entire
6HU rack or just a 3HU). If you want to, I can mail Martijn and
see if we can arrange something, like an afternoon where they
have some equipment installed for us to torture and answer
questions. I know from experience that saturday is NOT a good day
for this.

Hi Bauke, I just joined this too a few days ago. I actually just MADE
the deposit for an A-100... :-) I am from Zutphen.

What is a teisco 60f? (I use a Q, XT, E4K, Xbase 09).

You mean the sounds out of your other synths into the Doepfer?

I know that thought! :-)

Save a lot of money! As a starter I can't tell you anything about the
modules... But in time...

nice to see more dutchies here, only proves we're no cheap people ;-)

it's an old analog monophonic, teisco is now called kawai. tech info
and pictures can be found at
http://home.worldonline.nl/~smeyer/teisco/60f.html

i especially love it's filter. on stage, two weeks ago, the PA guy
threatened me if i didn't keep the tones under 20k ;-) and that was
just the filter :-)))

>You mean the sounds out of your other synths into the Doepfer?

yeps, the music i make is always looking for minimal but powerful
adaptions of the sound. i love self-running patches, random lfo's and
stuff like that. very powerful if used correctly.

okay :-) you know if this list is very active ?

i can drop by tomorrow and maybe ask ben & martijn if it would be an
idea to have an 'open afternoon' or something like that. possible
they can combine it with an "aktie" or a demonstration of some new
modules.

i'll keep you all posted ...

If you want to, we can meet there anyway. Say, like next week
or something. It might turn out to be a fun experience and I
was planning to get some new modules anyway.
