Doepfer G6 case/power supply question

Doepfer G6 case/power supply question

2005-09-15 by synth_addict

Hello,

I am going to order my third G6 case. I am not sure if I should order
it with an old (650mA) or new (1200 mA)power supply. When will I need
1200 mA power supply? (beside the obvious advantage of possibility to
run more modules)

I am not even sure if G6 cases are being sold with old power supplies
anymore. I apologize if this was answered already, I searched messages
in groups.yahoo.com, but maybe not enough.

Also, I am using an adapter for Analogue Systems modules - will it work
in a case with new power supply ? (not the brightest question, but it's
better to ask just in case)

Regards,

Zoran

hello zoran,

yes, you still can buy cases with 650 ma power supply,
but i'd recommend the new psu2 with 1200 ma because of two
reasons:

1. it is never bad to have lots of power
2. the psu2 is totally silent mechanically,
while the psu1 is not.

psu1 and psu2 shouldn't make any difference
for the asys modules.

best wishes

ingo

We have about 40 standard power supplies (650mA) left. If these are sold
only PSUII will be available. We hope to be able to reduce the additional
charge for the PSUII because of the higher quantities of the ring core
transformer but I'm still waiting for the quotation from the transformer
manufacturer for higher quantities.

Right. The only difference is the transformer and consequently the output
power (1200mA instead of 650mA) and the (mechanical ) hum noise. The rest of
the power supply electronics is identical for both types. It is even
possible to replace the standard transformer by the new ring core
transformer (recommended only for users who are experienced with electronics
and soldering).

Best wishes
