Hi, All..

Just received my approval to join this group.

My name is Rob, 37 years young, and i live in Belgium.

Electronics and music have been my passion ever since i was
a little kid, so it was obvious that synthesizers would be my
instrument of choice.

Back in the early 80's, i was aware of the existence of the BIG
project by Elektor, the Formant Synth, but at that time, it was
impossible for me to invest in. As a teenager on a weekly
allowance, wich for the greatest part was already spent in the local
Radio Shack.... :-)

However, a few years ago, i noticed a friend of mine throwing a lot
of stuff out of his cellar and attic, and among that stuff was some
sort of structure, resembling a dog-house, but what turned out to be
an attempt to build a cabinet for 12 modules of Formant...

No doubt that i took it home, and after quicly inspecting the inside,
i hooked it up to the power outlet.

A lot of red led's began flashing, and from the first looks, it
seemed the synth was still working, but a keyboard was missing, so i
hooked it up with a Moog Songproducer, and managed to get some
squeeks and rumbles out of it.

Since then, it has been standing here in the so-called 'home studio',
as some sort of relic. Since i look forward to a lot of free time in
the upcoming 2 months, i decided to restore it back to a
more 'distinquished' position as the one it is in right now.

From the first looks of it, i think i'm in for, in no particular
order :

test each and every PCB for possible damage.
tear it completely apart, getting rid of the enormous amount
of spaghetti-cabling inside...
create total new frontplates, since the ones i have right now,
really are in a bad shape.
replace every plug, potmeter, and other moving part that has suffered
from the years of solitary confinement.

a friend of mine is already building 2 small cabinets in sturdy MDF,
one for the 6 modules sized 266 x 71 mm, and one for the modules
sized 133 x 71 mm...

i'm in for a lot of fun, i guess....

Meanwhile, i'll be searching for replacement and additional PCB's, in
order to build some extra modules into the system...
I got my girlfriend's blessing to go on with it, so i'll get started
as soon as i know where.... :-)

Anyway, i'm glad to be here, and i hope to be of help wherever i can,
and offcourse i also hope to get some hints/tips from the others.

We will talk later, for sure !
Best regards,
RoB
