To my knowledge, the latter SD-1s were 32voice, and those, those shipped 
from the factory as 32voice, should have a small red "32 voice" under 
the "SD-1", where as those that were upgraded, I am not aware whether 
the upgrade came with any kind of sticker to inform people..
