Re: MIDI Out

2004-04-12 by bsmithut

Around twelve or thirteen years ago, a MIDI incompatibility
concerning the VFX-SD presented itself.

I've had the VFX-SD forever. In fact, it was the first synth my
father bought me when I was young (maybe that's one reason why I
love it so much). My father also bought me a Yamaha KX5 midi
controller (Key-tar). = ) NO MATTER WHAT I DID, when I connected
the KX5 directly to the VFX-SD, the VFX-SD would not recognize the
MIDI info comming from the KX5. If I connected any other keyboards
inbetween them in a chain, however, everything worked perfectly.

After a trip to my local musical instrument retailer where they
connected my VFX-SD and KX5 to the Yamaha CS-10 Music Computer (I
think that was its designation) the sales person diagnosed the
problem as: "Ensoniq has found a way to make MIDI in-compatible."

My parents and I left having purchased a solution that I'm sure is
no longer available: "The Pocket Filter." It's a small black box
with a MIDI in on one end, a MIDI out on the other, and a bunch of
little dip switches on the front. It cured the problem but cost my
parents around $75, I think.

Anyway, I thought this info may be helpful even though the situation
is quite different. You may try connecting the VFX-SD to the Yamaha
keyboard that you know it will communicate with and then running
another cable from the MIDI thru of the Yamaha to your computer.

I hope that I've been of some help. = )

God Bless,

Ben
